At The Wayside we are perfectly placed to appreciate the Western and Central patchwork of lakes, valleys, woodlands, fells and isolated beaches. This makes us one of the best places to get out and experience the great outdoors, whether it’s on road or mountain bike, trail run, hike or walk.

We can provide great walking, hiking or trail running routes. You can enjoy this magnificent landscape directly from The Wayside.

Whinlatter and Grizedale both offer stunning trails with amazing views, for exhilarating mountain biking, rare wildlife and adventure.

The radio silence in the last several weeks is finally broken!📡
The Wayside was closed for the most of March so that we could visit Japan🇯🇵 after over 9 years - yes, it was a long time since the last time! Covid was one of the reasons to be blamed for, but obviously the business got in the way of planning for the trip.
This video is different from our usual updates, and it is to share some of the Japanese landscapes including famous gardens and temples that we visited.
One of the delights we had during the stay was to see cherry blossoms🌸 - after over two decades. When we arrived in mid March cherry blossoms just started blooming, which was quite early compared to usual. The colours of the flowers are subtle and each petal is very delicate. Japanese people adore those delicate flowers not only because they are symbol of spring's arrival, but also for their elegant beauty both in their bloom and at their end; the falling gentle petals resemble snow falls or even snow storm when blown by warm spring breeze. The ephemeral life of the flowers is also considered as a part of their beauty.
